Ok to start off here is a little background, my fiancé has been complaining for a while about how my jeep was my project, and that she wanted her own project. Well as many of you may know "her project" turns into my other project and now it consumes most of my time too. So when we sat down and started talking it out about what she wanted in the camper vs what was actually doable and made sense this is what we came up with that would fit our needs the best.



The initial plan was to have a 4x6 foot base with a sloped rear and a 4x8 top section, the driver side would be the kitchen side with a fold down counter top, a slide out sink and grill, with plenty of storage for all her cooking needs. The other side would be about the same just storage though. Under the front of the trailer would hold the water tank and propane tank, as well as having room for charcoal and lighter fluid.

After taking some time to think on it some more I ditched the slide out sink, and will just mount it inside the kitchen area to make my life a lot easier. The grill will still slide out, just not quite as much as before.

As for the sleeping side of all of this, the top will have a place for four poles to go up, and that is where we will hang our hammocks when the weather is nice, there is also the option of flipping the 4x8ft platform up top over to create an 8x8 platform that will hold our group tent for when we take our friends with us.

I know everyone is just here for the pictures, so here is some pictures of the frame, and the metal internal structure coming together.













I know it's kinda hard to see what is actually going on, but when the wood and sheet metal starts going on I think it will make a lot more sense. Oh and here is a picture of my jeep that we are building it to look like.

Subbed. I'm also working on an offroad trailer, but I'm just building a normal trailer with a lid and an attachment for a tent on top. Love seeing these builds.

 

Looking forward to see how this turns out. Im also building a offroad trailer, so if you come up with any good ideas that would work on mine i might just have to borrow them haha.

 

I am going to model a build after this guys trailer. It is the perfect base for what I want.

Well I was able to mount the axle today, and start some of the wood work. Before anyone ask why I did a drop axle reversed, it's because I plan on putting 37s and wheels to match my jeep on it later, but for now I have a set of takeoffs to put on it so it will sit a little lower than the final product, but with the 37s the height would have been too tall with a straight axle.



As far as the wood goes, let me explain how it's working so you can understand why it will take a while. If you look back at some earlier pictures you can see I build everything out of squares of metal, the 3/4in treated plywood will fit inside each of those squares and be outlined like a picture frame. While this is a very time consuming process to cut each piece of plywood to fit, it will make all the doors fit better, as well as making my life 10xs easier when I do the sheet metal outside to rivit it directly to the metal frame. (I think this will make more sense later as the pictures come along)

 

thats an excellent plan you set up. esp with the slide outs, great way to add space but keep it towable over reasonable off road trails! if one must go out and live in the woods, its nice to bring a sink/grill/watertank/fuel, heck something to sleep under in a hail storm even!

 

Got some of the wood in. Should finish the wood tonight. Just waiting on the water tank, the pump, wheel spacers, and the slide rails to come in and I will be able to start putting it all together.

Finished almost all the wood today, it's all cut and almost everything is on. The only thing I'm missing, is putting the back two doors on.

With the main kitchen door open, and the lower storage door open. The missing piece is where the sink will go, I'm just waiting on it to come in before I put the wood in it.

Here is a picture from the back with the two doors missing that I still have to do. The upper one will have a slide out with sunken spots for my AR, 308, 10/22, and two glocks. It will also have the place for plenty of mags and lots of ammo.
The lower door goes all the way through for storage of firewood, chairs, and anything else.

 

Man those axle mounts look good from the side. Big beefy welds. Dudes good!!! Real good!!!
