If it's LED it will be polarity sensitive. Might just be wired backwards.

with the brake light and license plate light, then you need 3 wires and the factory brake light harness only has 2 wires. You can fish another wire through the factory sleeve in the tailgate - just use a small (18 or 16 gauge) wire. I actually added a backup light (6" LED bar) to mine at the same time, so I had to add 2 more wires. I can send more info and pics if you need more help.

The ORO Light should have very good wiring instructions with it. As mentioned in the post above you need 3 wires. We put one of the wires into the right brake light and the other two go to the factory 3rd brake light harness.

Where in FL are you? I installed one on mine and could lend a hand if you're local.

I don't mean to go back on my offer to help, but I just did a quick search and found 2 separate write-ups for this install and both have the wire color code included. This will be faster than me writing up the entire install. I would be happy to answer any specific questions you might have though. If you send me a PM, I'll send you my number and we can talk or text.

Yes, you do have to tap (splice) into the factory wire for the license plate light. The brake light wire and ground wire are already in the factory harness in the tailgate.

This is the color code for the factory wiring in the taillight and the ORO colors:
White with yellow line - Brake light - (ORO) Red
White with purple line - Parking lights with license plate light - (ORO) Green
White with tan line - Ground - (ORO) Black
