I have a 400C mounted under the hood. It overheats all the time. At the beginning of last month, I went wheeling and didn't even use my locker. At the end of the day I went to air up and only got 2 tires done before it overheated.

I'm exchanging it for the ARB dual head. Having it mounted in the rear storage. I was thinking about getting the Viair 450 which is 100% DC, but slow.
I have heard similar complaints. I'd love for some people with a Constant Duty or ultra duty to chime in here. Anyone else with similar overheating problems?

I have a 400C mounted under the hood and have aired up 8 tires at the end of the day several times now at 80+ degree outside temps with the hood closed

Wish mine performed like that, I would keep it. Another guy I wheel with has the same compressor and same overheating problem. Our mod shop put it in knowing it wasn't 100% duty, but didn't want to use the 450c because it's too slow. I did my own research and decided on the dual head ARB.

When it overheated last month, it was 75 degrees all day, I left the hood open for a few minutes before I turned it on. Still overheated. It has overheated in cooler weather, but those were days I was using my locker.

I'll be glad to see it go, very happy my mod shop will take it back after almost 6 months in use. Though I told him about swapping it at around 4 months.

Do you find it overwhelming loud back there? I want to mount mine somewhere in the rear cargo as well and I'm worried about running lockers and tools and destroying my passengers ears lol

I'm running the heavy duty OBA system on my rig and have never had issues and use it for filling 38" tires (most of the time I'm running 10 lbs). Had enough pushing through it with a full tank to even set the bead on a tire when I was on a run last year with some guys from Hi Lift after a tire came off the rim on their rig. IMHO the Heavy Duty or Extreme Duty systems are the ones to go with. You're going to get about the same fill time out of each system, but the Extreme Duty is for those that need the 100% duty cycle.

At the risk of trolling, I've got to add my .02 .... The arb twin compressor is insane! 100% duty cycle, it's faster than a virgin on prom night and has never shut down on me, not once.

Oh, and NO ONE will beat Northridge....

It's actually reasonable. I only run them when I'm airing up tires. But the stereo easily drowns them out.

Where do you have yours mounted? I'm having it mounted behind the driver side wheel well. My mod shop built a custom bracket for it.
