Default Is this normal

is it normal to have a clicking sound in the diff when both wheels are off the ground and I spin the tire by hand? I had a local shop do gears about 1000 miles ago and have been recently noticing a vibration. When I spin the wheels it is a very noticeable clunking or clicking sound in the diff. In fact both the front and rear are doing it. Gears were installed about 2 months/1K miles ago, did the break in and fluid change at 500 miles.

I dont hear it when Im driving....just feel a vibration. Anyway, I thought this action should be smooth.

Should be smooth. Something is going on and needs to be looked at.

Definitely not right. Take it back before it blows up and causes more damage.

shop said the clicking is the normal noise the spider gears make. Just to be clear, I dont hear the clicking when Im driving, only when I spin the wheels by hand. I dont remember hearing this before I had gears done but I really can say for sure. Can anyone confirm that their Rubicon, with the Electric lockers, makes a clicking noise when turing the wheels by hand?

Thanks.

Likely not the cause, but an old firehouse prank was to put a zip tie on the driveshaft. It make a hell of a noise and for the less mechanical newboy, it was great.

I usually think of CV joints when I hear clicking. I went out and raised mine and didn't hear a sound.
