Talking NEWBIE WITH A RUBI (mod questions/ideas)

Ladies and Gentlemen, Its good to finaly be a member of the site

I've been reading endless amounts posts since july, when the talk of getting a Rubicon Unlimited started.

This Rubi is the family car for the beach, it will be spending the remainder of its life where only 15% of the roads are paved and 50% of the roads are nasty double track (i.e. the perfect place for a Jeep). also no street lights and the possibility of heavy fog, less than 20 ft. visibility. Its primary purpose is for beach driving, in really deep, soft, sugary sand. But getting to the beach requires a good amount of ground clearence (pond sized puddles, DEEP ruts and drops, trail blazing). so here is what i had in mind, as recomended by the majority.

- 2.5 TF lift with shocks
- JKS trac bars
- Nitto Dune Grapplers 33x12.5x16 or 35x12.5x16 (did i mention how soft the sand is)
- Mickey Thompson Classic IIs 16x8
- KC 130 w Fog Slimlites
thats for now, we will soon be thinking . . .
- Fornt Bumper
- Winch (probably XRC)
- 1/2 or 3/4 front coil spacers
- high powered driving lights (looking for recomendations)

Give me all the feedback you got

I'm already a proud member of the jeep community with a 2000 TJ Sport, SJ 2.5, and 32s, a true work horse. I look forward to being a member of the JK community.

Sounds like a good start and welcome to the forum. The MT Classic II's will pit like crazy when exposed to salt water and will look like ****. You're better off with painted (powdercoated) aluminum or steel wheels. If you go with 35" tires, a regear would help to reduce lugging down in the sand.

Thanks guys,

river2c, i never thought of that. do you have any suggestions for a 16x8 powder coated wheel with 4.5 BS.

Joe, the only question i have about the TF 2.5 lift is about the rear sway bar links. I've seen a couple guys mount the links on the outside of the sway bar, putting them and the bolts very close to the rear wheels, to the point where they can rub. Is it difficult to bolt the links to the inside of the sway bar (away from the wheel) ? Are there any tricks or suggestions ?

Only thing I would say is get the 35's. If you are going to drop money on tires do it right the first time.

I agree, if you are thinking of 35s you might as well as do it up front.

A set a gears is also going to come in handy in *all* that sand.

Welcome to the forum!
Do the Locker Mod. Super cheap and easy! That way you can also engage your factory lockers in 2hi 4hi. comes in handy when you want the wheels to keep shoveling with a little extra traction. Don't forget to turn off your ESP when you go into the sand.

Here's the link. cheap and easy.

Sounds like a nice build good luck and welcome.

I'd sure like to live where only 15% of the roads are paved
