Default Newbie help. 35" tire on rear tailgate?

Hi all,
Been reading a bunch of mixed post. Can I put a 35x12.50x18 toyo mt on a Sahara wheel on the tailgate? I don't do any wheelin at all and go easy on my vehicles. I actually only put about 6k a year on my cars. Can I get away with a spacer or do I have to get an expensive carrier? Thanks for the help

so long as you make sure that the rubber isolators are pressing firmly against the sidewall of your spare, you should be able to make this work for quite some time especially if you don't wheel your jeep.

I have a spacer sitting in my basement. Used it with a 35 for a few months before I upgraded the bumpers. Pm me if you want to make an offer.

I've had my 35 on the stock carrier for 2 years. Its been fine but starting to rattle pretty bad. I will be going to a new carrier soon

Get the daystar bump stops: http://www.quadratec.com/products/16053_520.htm

I replaced my wheels with 33's and the stock bump stops wouldn't reach. I got these and easily trimmed them to fit.

As others mentioned, a 35" may put some stress on your carrier, but these will help in the meantime. Just keep an eye on it. If the carrier starts to break, take the spare off until you can replace it.

I would try to fit it without a spacer or adapter and get the Daystar bumpstops to keep it tight, MBRP makes a reinforcement kit that may help as well.
Both are cheap and easy.

Here is what I did.

I had the same tire. I had some of the cheapie wheel spacers (not adapters with bolts) that I used to push the tire away from the tailgate.

This was just enough to allow me close the tailgate, but because of the toyos true size, it fit snug resting on the stock bumper (when I had one).

Had that for close to a year until I upgraded and I saw no signs of damage.

Cant remember the size of the spacer (1/8 in, 1/2 in??) so you may have to test fit a couple.
