in that case, if all things being equal (i.e. backspace) and only the width is smaller, 8 vs 9 you can assume that there will be 1/2 more clearance from the back of the wheel and wheel will sit in a 1/2 inch more that same specs on a 9" wheel. You will actually have a little more clearance in the rear with a 8" 5.71 backspaced wheel than the same offset with on a 9" wheel.
