Extend the lugs is one option, but get an after market carrier. My 35 wore my tailgate top hinge in about 20 K and the rattle after that was very annoying.

Since your eventually getting a carrier, save some $$$ and throw the spare in the back and strap it down. Happy with my High Rock bumper/ carrier. It's like getting a free bumper for the price of others carriers alone.

You can pick up a spacer bracket for cheap. It will move the wheel up and out. You shouldnt have to deflate the tire to mount it on the carrier

Clearly that light weight tialgate was not designed with these bigger / heavier tires mounted directly to them. I would think even just driving around town you are risking torquing the tailgate badly enough to cause problems.

Hits there also, but seems if I lift high enougn to hit the light, I am then to high for the carrier lugs.

Yeah, mine is aired up but a wheel spacer is used for clearance, you will have to hold it up and try to see how much space needs to be filled with a spacer, it all depends on your wheel backspacing.

You could go with a cheaper tire carrier/bumper like the one Rancho has. You might end up loving it. I purchased mine to get me by until I had the funds for a smitty and I really like the Rancho. Search around for price, I got mine from Amazon for $408.
