Default New Member - Tire question

I bough the OME long travel shock kit from Northridge. I am considering new tires. I noticed that there is a metal seam just behind the rear door on my Rubicon unlimited that protrudes backwards toward the front of my rear tire. This triangular piece of metal is about 2.5 inches from my wheel. Obviously this piece must go before installing anything greater than maybe 33 inch tires. Those installing larger tires like 35s and 37s must be dealing with this seam. How?

You can just bend it out of the way. Although I am running 35's with a 3" Teraflex lift and have not had any issues with that piece.

SEARCH for "pinch seam". You will find multiple threads on this topic that offer several solutions.

You should be ok with 35's, as the axle arcs up and away from that pinch seam. If it bugs you, or if you go taller, just get out your favorite BFH or Sawzall...

x2, I have 35's with OME coils and although the seam is close to the rear tires, it does not hit.
