Default New member, New JK, New mods. Questions!!

Hey guys,

Just bought a 2012 Wrangler Sahara and have ordered the following aftermarket parts for it.

- Poison Spyder Brawler Lite front bumper
- Teraflex coil spring levelling kit
- Take-off 2012 Rubicon shocks
- MBRP spare tire relocation bracket
- AEV Procal
- Daystar hood latches

I also have a deposit on a set of Fuel Hostage wheels in black. I have ordered the set in 18x9 with 4.5 backspacing and a set of 285/65/18 Nitto Trail Grapplers. This will mainly be an on-road daily driver (mall crawler, lol). I am just hoping the 4.5 backspacing won't be too much and look funny with 33's? Should I stick with the 4.5 backspace or switch it to a 5" backspace?

Any issues with my mods as far as compatibility?

Thanks in advance!

4.5 or 5 is not too much for 285. Here is a pic of 285/70/17 mt/r k's on 17 procomp 7089 and 4.75 backspacing. I think it looks really good

Indeed, those look great on your Jeep, I will stick with the 4.5 backspacing!

Will do. They will be on my "to-do" list after I get these new parts installed. I plan to do the install on everything myself as I am used to working on lowered cars and think this should be a bit easier. I bought a coil spring compressor as I think it may make things a bit easier too!

I also just bought some Quadratec Ultimate liners, Gorilla black lugs and Mopar entry guards.

Here's a few pics of the Jeep as it sits today. Give it a few weeks and it should look totally different!

You'll like the 4.5"

Here is essentially the same size tire. Yours will be about .5" more narrow. should almost look exactly even with the flares or stick out very little. Mine is on the right a stocker on the left. Mine sits about 2" taller. Hard to tell in the photo.

So the wheels are back-ordered for a bit, not sure how long. In the meantime, I am torn if I should stick with the 285/65-18 which is approximately 33" diameter or go to a 295/70-18 which is 34.5"? Will 35's be too hard on the stock drivetrain or significantly diminish fuel mileage compared to the 33's? I am still leaning towards the 33's but have too much time to think about things and I don't want to make a mistake! lol

A lot of people who bought 33's wish they had gotten 35's. Of course, a lot of people with 35's wish they had 37's. With 4.10 or 3.73 gears, the new motor turns 35's just fine. With that minimal lift, the front driveshaft will probably be ok. You'll likely lose a couple mpg, depending on how heavy the tires are (maybe 16-17 mpg).

Here is what my 2009 jk came out like, I installed a DBS 3" lift with Fox 2.0 shocks , 35x12.50 Dick Cepek mud country, procomp 17 x 9 w/ 4.5 back spacing, love the ride, going from 32 stock to 35's hardly noticeable on performance, pics, not focused on tires, but I hope you can get some reference .
