Ok... No part of the JK D44 gets torque to 12 lbs. The pinion gets torqued 160-200 ft lbs. Unless they meant amount of torque it takes to rotate the pinion. In which case that should be 7-11 inch lbs.

And why 3 people??

this is pretty crazy. they set the pinion pre load to tight . a bearing will not fail that quickly unless it was bad to begin with and they would know something was wrong when they installed it. when they told you three people checked it that is the first clue.

crazy

They Supplied the gears and minimum install kit. They said I would only need a minimum install kit due to the fact I only have 4K on my Jeep.

For a gear swap, my local offroad shop will only use Yukon gears(his personal opinion they are best to back their product), and he doesn't care if your ride is next years model w/ 25 miles on it, he replaces ALL parts with new, or he won't agree to do install. He backs his work 100%. Good luck with your situation.

those bearings are only like 30-35 bux for both pinion bearings at O'reilys why wouldn't they just change them. When you press a bearing off, half the time it gets screwed up. It is just so much easier to replace. I have never set up my own gears, but I have pressed bearings on stuff. It just is not worth the $15 savings to not replace them.

I have no idea what the bearing pre-load is supposed to be, but I agree with David and my previous statement that the whole "3 people checked it" says either they did not know what they were doing and using your jeep as an experiment, or they are covering their ass. Either way... they should pay.

Oh... and since they supplied the parts and labor both, they need to replace it all. Those gears have a warranty on them (1 year according to yukon's website). So there is nothing for you to pay for.

I have already talked to him about replacing it on his dime, and he refuses. Any ideas on that.
