New Currie RJ 44 axle housing issues
#11
Kind of funny... a month later and I have the EXACT same issue on a RJ44. WTF Northridge? Of course, it’s a Sunday, no one is available, and my Jeep is out of commission. No big deal... I don’t have to go to work or anything.
Edit* I measured the shaft. It’s supposed to be 33.6 and I’m 34.5 from end to ear end. (Not u joint center) No test fit before it ships? I stand by my WTF Northridge statement. So far their service has been great, so we’ll see. I have to rent a freakin car now.

I am sorry about the issue you are having and just for the record you emailed yesterday and I personally called you at 1:08 pm and Nobody answered and then I called my customer service team right after that to give them a heads up and we were on it this morning prior to you calling also. The issue is Currie MFG'ed the housing incorrectly and we are working with Currie to get this fixed and they will be making you a new inner shaft that will work and get you on your way.

Just to make sure the thread is clear, I’ve been talking to Northridge. So far excellent service as expected. Unfortunately I get spotty service at my house and can’t get all of my phone calls. I’ve spent a lot of money with Northridge and so far nothing will change. Northridge, thanks for the immediate and quick responses!

So here is my question for the thread.......If Currie manufactured this incorrectly, and they are now making you a new inner shaft that will work, does that mean you now have a "custom" inner shaft? If you break that axle shaft somewhere down the line, what do you do for a replacement as you won't be able to buy something normal "off the shelf"? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding the resolution

Well, the garage nightmare seems to be over. The issue ended up being axle shaft diameter clearance issues into the e locker. There’s a couple theories going, involving alignment vs. diameter but either way, machining is necessary. I used a high precision flap disc technique called “f*** it”.
That being said, I spent a LOT of time talking to Northridge and Currie. Both companies displayed excellent customer service beyond expectations and both were ready to ship a new complete axle if needed. I’m sure I annoyed the hell of NR and Currie but they stuck to it. I’d name their names, but I’m not too sure if they’d appreciate it, so I won’t. (I wouldn’t want to be named, personally.)
Last note- Currie offsets the upper track bar mounts by an inch. Anyone getting into a rock jock needs probably 4” lift plus or a bit of a short track bar. My RK isn’t having it. It doesn’t clear the diff either. It looks to me like a RE is the only current solution. I’ll know when it gets here... Other than the problems I had/have, Currie crate axles install like they should - like a crate axle. I’ve got good caster and a perfect pinion angle now.
