Default Need tire advice

I am looking to run 35 inch Micky Thompson mtz on my jeep. I see there is the 315/70R17 then there is the 35x12.50R17. What's the difference between the sizes and which should I order. They be mounted on the Micky Thompson ClassicIII wheels. My jeep Is a 2dr 08 x with a 3.5 rock Krawler lift and flat fenders. Thanks everyone

I have the Mickey Thompson MTZ. They have good grip on various terrain types and on dry & wet road.

They are the same size.
315/70R17 is in the metric system, the 35x12.50R17 is in inches.

315 (Tread width in millimeters) / 70 (% of tread width = side wall height) R 17 (Rim diameter in inches)

35 (Tire diameter in inches) x 12.50 (Tread width in inches) R 17 (Rim diameter in inches)

The numbers given by tire manufacturers are nominal, not the accurate size. The actual tire diameter is a bit smaller than the numbers suggest.

X2. MTZs are a superb choice. A great all-weather all-conditions mud tire that even gives decent grip on winter ice roads.

The 315/70/17 do measure small, mine were 33.75" tall when mounted. They're very long-wearing, I got 45-50,000 miles out of a set -- they were noisy by the end 😃

You probably meant that the MTZ are all terrain, not mud tires.

Nope...the Baja MTZ is Mickey Thompson's mud terrain. The ATZ is the all-terrain. Had two sets of those on previous Xterras and they were great! But for mud terrains....I'd honestly go with a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers over the Mickeys. I've put nearly 40k on my 37x12.50-17 Terra Grapplers and still have some tread left....maybe another 10k miles tops. But they're usually less expensive than Mickey Thompsons in my experience.

You say potato, and I say potato ; you say tomato and I say tomato... To me, they're mud tires that are siped to also run well in rain and wet roads.

Well, it seems they changed their description of the MTZ.
When I bought them, Mickey Thompson regarded the MTZ as -- "40% Road & Sand, 60% Dirt & Mud".
Just looking at the tread shows an aggressive all terrain and not a true mud tire, and, what really counts is that they behave like good AT, not like good MT:

The ATZ were described as -- "60% Road & Sand, 40% Dirt & Mud".

True mud tires have larger lugs and wider grooves.
