Need Suggestions on What to Check Next - Vibration after 55 MPH
Hello All,
I have a 16 JKU that I am having a vibration issue on. I just need some suggestions on what else to check. The jeep was in a front end accident and the passenger side took the impact. It bent the front axle. The jeep was all stock. I went ahead and did the 2.5 teraflex budget lift with rancho geo brackets. Install went fine. When I test drove it, the vibrations would begin a little over 50 and it would be felt all over the car. But the steering wheel did not shake like it would with the death wobble. I got an alignment and everything was fine, aside from a bad thrust angle in the rear. I decided to upgrade the front trackbar to an adjustable. And I upgraded the steering stabilizer. While it improved the steering feel, the vibration was still there. After all of this I found a used front axle and swapped it. I went to the alignment shop and got it aligned. Everything looked good. But the vibration still exists. It feels like it is all over the body, coming from underneath. The steering wheel does not violently shake. I tried a different set of wheels but that didn't help. What can I check next? Would bad driveshafts cause something like this? The jeep only has 46k miles. I owned a JLU before this and it had a 4 in lift with geo brackets and it drove well with the upgrades.

Typically, vibes in the steering wheel are going to be steering linkage components, joints, bolts. vibes felt in your seat are going to be driveline. Since it sounds like the whole jeep is shaking and the steering wheel is stable, I'd start suspecting driveshafts. I agree with Jay above. Pull the front shaft and test drive.

I chased a vibration issue on my JK and was able to diagnose it using the NVH automotive vibration app. The app gives you an idea of what order of vibration your vehicle is having. It will not tell you a sure part but it will tell you what and where the vibration is originating at and how strong it is. My issue occurred after a regear job gone bad and thanks to the app I was able to get the shop to refund the job and get it corrected by a more competent shop. The guys at both shops used the info to further diagnose the issue although I already knew it was a badly installed gear set. Best of luck with the issue but you might be dealing with multiple driveline issues specially if it was involved in an accident. The app works on the science of frequency detection for driveline issues. It is a free app so nothing lost by trying it and getting an idea of what is causing it. It will give a diagram of the vehicle and where it detects vibration and how strong it is.

Good you found that and good you updated your post. Now for the remedy.. many aftermarket drive shafts are available.. Forum Members that run aftermarket could give reviews... I'm still stock so I have no skin in the game, but will enjoy reading the replies.
