Default Need Serious Help on ReGearing Ideas

I have a 2012 JKU and right now i am running the 3.73 gears and 33's. I have been saving and i am really close to my goal, so its about to go into the shop and i just bought a set of dana 44's but i want to run 37 mud grapplers on my rig. I dont know which gear ratio is better, 4.56 or 4.88. Oh its an automatic, but really need some solid help cause im really confused and want to go ahead and get this thing going. Tired of starring at this rockkrawler 5.5 sitting her. Thanks

On my '12 auto, I'm running 4.88s with 35s and love it. Mine came stock with 4.10s and I'm glad I made the switch to 4.88s as I'll have good gearing when I decide to move up to 37s.

If I were you, I'd go 4.88s, especially if you're going to run 37s.

I think 4.88 is too much unless its dedicated trail rig or most of time offroad. I see many of 2012+ running 4.10 and 37's with No complaints. When I do mine I'm going 4.56. I'm running 3.73 with my 2013 and 35's. Only complaint is on hills with headwind. End goal is 37's

A set of rubicon 44's with 4.10s? Why not just drive it with the 37's for a while to see what you think of the performance before throwing money at new gears. (And it will give you time to look into any strength upgrades you may want to do at the same time. )

X2. You may find the 37's liveable with the 4.10's. I know others have...

Unless he lives in the Midwest where it's as flat as a pancake, I doubt he'll find 4.10s livable with 37s. Heck, I didn't like 4.10s with my 35s.

Now that I'm running 4.88s, it drives and accelerates like a stock Jeep again. Who wouldn't want that?

I have the 4.10s in my 2010. It's not that bad. I'm sure with the new motor he has its not too different than 37s with those gears.

I would look into 5.13 for 37's but IMO 37's are to much for a JK. I work on/with them for a living and I see 37's tear up heavy duty drag links, tie rod ends and ball joints all the time. They do look killer though. I have 5.13's and Detroit trutrac's setting in the garage waiting for install now. Im in VA and with the hills around hear the 4.10's and 35's are a PITA. From my research 4.88 and 35-37 for 6 speed and 5.13 for 35-37 and auto trans

Different engine. Different transmission. The 3.6's don't have the same gearing needs as the older 3.8's.

i would probably go 4.56 but thats just my guess. I have 35's on 3.73 3.6 pentastar and I can still chirp my tires from a stop if I floor the accelerator.

The jump between 4.56 and 4.88 isn't really that big you can't go wrong with either. If you travel on the highway a lot and care about mileage go 4.56, if you are mostly city and/or don't care about mpg and want performance go 4.88
