Default Need to replace my STOCK Dana 35, HELP!!!

Well basicly what it says up top, I need to replace the piece of crap. I basicly smoothed out my spider gear (for the second time, I'm running 35s) this past weekend and it costs about the same as a new axle from mopar and I know this because I had to pay for it after it was finished.

What I need help on is:
1: What is the cheapest way to fix the spider gears with out replacing axle?
2: If I must replace axle, where is the cheapest place to get one
3: Should I just be happy with the Dana 44 or should I go for broke and get the Dana 60

Any and all help will be nice

I regularly see the front D44 w/ locker for under $1500 new, not sure if the same pricing applies to the rear though. A D60 will obviously be stronger, but much more money. A lot of guys are successfully running 37's with the D44s, so it would probably meet your needs, depends how you drive though.

The Mopar rear D44 is about $100 cheaper than the front. What axle ratio do you currently have?

You could just do a super 35 kit! Instead of putting stock parts back in the 35, you could dump some alloy shafts, detroit locker, and a set of superior ring & pinion. That is the exact set up my dad runs in his TJ and he hasn't had a problem in almost 2 years!

Completet Rubi 44 with 4.10 gears and locker is $1400 from Mopar. It will bolt in. Wire in the locker with a cheap switch and go, assuming you have 4.10 gears up front.

If your running 35s you wont have a problem with a dana 44, but if you have anyu thought at all on getting 37s or up best just get the dana 60 and enjoy the power and relyadility

Buy the Dana 44. Its beefy enough for 35's and will bolt right up. Remember that the X and Sahara D44 is a 30 spline and the Rubicon is 32 so if you buy used, the Rubicon model has stronger axles inside it.

..... do the D44 or super 35. a built D60 is about 2-3x the cose of the mopar D44.

How cheap do you want to be in the short term? You could throw a used D35 carrier in the hole and go. It won't solve your long term problems, but it would buy you maybe a few months.

Anyone know if a TJ 35 carrier (or XJ) will fit a JK 35 housing and JK axles? You could even try a DIY attempt. Pull it, torque the used one in, and run a pattern. If the pattern shows your pinion depth is close, you can seal it up and run it for a bit. Just make sure you get the "spider" gears if in the deal.

I say go for the D60, but it isn't my money. The reasonable price and availability on the JK 44 means you can get a 44 cheaper, but it also means you won't get as much for a used one if you change your mind. I'm not suggesting abuse, but some people get reasonable life from D35s with 35s. Since you have already had two failures, you may want to overbuild a bit.
