Default Need re-assurrance!

I was going to put in the Coast front and rear drive shafts in last week and when it came to it, i could not do it, because I just can't have the peace of mind I need, re-torquing the pinion nut to 160 ft. lbs. and calling it a day. I do not have access to a dial gauge in. lbs wrench and I do not want to pay 4wheelpart store here $100 per shaft to install, and they could just torque to 160 or worse use and impact gun!

I did install the adj. rear upper ca's, adjust the pinion angle, rear coil wedges and coil spring retainers.

I know many, many have done it, but still need that push!

Think of torque ratings as more of a science than real fact. Control arm bolts should be 120 or so. Good luck getting them there while laying on your back under the jeep. Even with the torque wrench I borrowed my my local parts store, I got less than that. 2 years later no issues. Most part stores have a lend a tool program. Just do it and be happy you know how to!

It is definitely best to check pinion preload after you are done torquing the pinion nut back on. At 3" of lift and a 2 door you can get away with adjusting your pinion angle so you will be fine just making the adjustment.

A couple grunts and f*** me's and I was able to torque to spec. Although my body required a few really weird positions to do it. It's very doable

follow Eddies guide on (you know where) and you will be just fine. I had second thoughts aswell.. just make sure you have a good lb torque wrench (I used the kobalt one from lowes) and don't sweat it.

by the way a little two arm gear pull like this will work wonders. Picked it up at pep-boys

The hardest part I had was removing the yoke(whatever it's called) for the rear drive shaft now that was a PITA several "F" bombs later I got it off. I wouldn't worry to much about it, being aware of it you'll get it torqued down.

I concur just did my front coast drive shaft when I installed the pro rock. It was a piece of cake. Assuming you have or plan to get a gear puller for the flange removals. Again there is a fantastic write up on this as mentioned above.

Thanks, for the words of encouragement! I have done everything so far, except for installing the rear TruTrac. My neighbor has an impact gun to remove pinion nut and a 250lb. torque wrench. Will rent a gear puller and give it a try when I can find some free time and decent weather to getr done.

You'll be fine. I had to replace a leaky pinion seal and retorquing the nut was no biggie and no problems since. Good luck!
