Maybe if the rocker gard is thin enough, but most a .25 inch thick. That being said, the cantilever beams that support the rails will flex and if close enough to the body (.5 inches to .75 inches)... it will damage the body. In addition, body mounted rails are higher up in the air and if you do a BL, you just increased your rail clearance. with a Frame mounted rail, a BL does not add additional clearance for the rail. It will add additional clearance between body and rail.

My last jeep had a body mounted rail with no issues. I put a frame mounted rail this time and even welded on additional member to minimize flex. It still flexed into my body the first time I landed hard on it.

I really like the Rockhard idea but I hate the look of diamond plate too.

I think their site says you can also get them smooth. This is the non slip version.

ok thanks for your knowledgable opinion.

if you get good frame mounted rails they wont budge

if you get nerf bars or the POS stock stuff then that stuff will give way

You are right but at $800, I think Ill have to pass.

Wouldnt the body start to rust with all those bolts holding the sliders on?

Thats a lot of holes to drill in the body.

Not an opinion... just what I have seen to date. Which frame mounted rail are you talking about. How many beams run to the frame? How wide are the beams and how thick are the walls... I will be happy to calculate how much load it will take to flex the beam into your rocker panel.

i had turbocity rock rails on my YJ at one point and they flexed a lot, then we added som support to them and they stopped flexing

the shrockworks on my JK have three solid, and reinforced attachment points going to the frame, one thing to note the flex might not be the rails but the actual frame, the frame on the jk is really beefy compared to previous jeep models.

The New Mopar Rockrails are good! Looks like the Shrockworks. The use both body and frame mounting. Takes about 20mins to install. I put a set on my Unl and also the wife's 2 dr.

Pics please - I'd like to do the same thing!

Edit - I guess I should have read further to see your pic! Looks great! Have any direct-view pics from the side?

Also, getting back on-topic, I have the shrockworks rails and am very pleased with them. They are very sturdy. The only downside I see from some of the other options is they lose a little clearance when compared to body-mounted and some have gotten hung up on rocks caught between the frame-support rails.

I think there is a rail that has a flat plate from the frame to the rail on their product, not sure which one it is. I've been wondering if you could weld something on to the shrockworks rails to create a flat surface??
