Ok, I've looked at all the different kinds. And most seem pretty good. But from those of you who have used them or seen them used which will give me the most protection from rocks. I have a 4dr. What kinds do you have and why do you like them. What kind give the best all around protection without sacrificing clearance?

 

I have Shrockworks on my 4dr Rubi and love them. They kept a Doug. fir from caving in my driver side door last month. So not only do they protect your underside but they also provide some side protection. Excellent craftsmanship on all their products so far. I also have the front bumper and skid, waiting for the rear..... Good luck!

 

the decision on which ones to get should be purpose-based. All of the "quality" manufacturers make some good products. there are basically two types, fram mounted and boy / frame mount. If you are skiddish about drilling a couple holes into the body, then you probably want the frame mounts. I wanted something with an intergrated side step. I like to set my foot out there in the summer time. it also helps a little bit with keeping mud and snow from getting flung onto the side of the Jeep. There are alot of them out there but I decided to order the PureJeep rockers. I take my Jeep off-road alot and mostly around rocks. I like the fact that they have alot of bracing. Here is a pic of what I ordered.

I know what you are talking about. When I bought my rails I had them Line-Xed, I also had the whole tub and rockerpannels line-xed so you don't notice the seem.

 

I don't mind drilling into the body, but I think I like the idea of the frame/body mounted ones. I do want something that will tuck up tight to the jeep, I got lucky and was careful while I had my stock plastic steps on, but I took it easy. I've seen the shrockworks up close and like them. Those purejeep ones look good too, mine slings mud so bad my door handles get packed with it sometimes. Where I work I'm off-road probably 80% of the time and in wet weather it really gets annoying having muddy hands all the time.

Stay with a body mounted rock rail. Frame mounted rails can bend into your rocker panel.

 

Have you seen the Rockhard4x4 sliders and steps? They look really nice and seem to protect well too.
