Default Need Help...recentering the steering wheel and its stuck.

Basically I was trying to adjust the steering wheel by myself and I went a turn around with the turnbuckle and it made the wheel almost completely upside down...down know if I went the wrong way or not....but now I cant get the thing to budge. Ive tryed starting the Jeep in case the steering wheel was locked but after that it didnt help. Any advice would definately be helpful.

I'm assuming you mean the turnbuckle won't turn. It should. If you have a set of large slip joint pliers, try to use them to turn the turnbuckle. If you went the wrong way you can always go back.

If you are looking at the turnbuckle from the drivers side (lying on the ground), turn the turnbuckle the direction you want the wheel to turn (wheel is too far left, turn turnbuckle right, clockwise).

One way turns very easily, the other is very tough. As you've found (I did the same thing) centering the wheel is real touchy. It doesn't take much of a turn to get it centered. I put my wrench on one of the bolts and used it for leverage to turn the sleeve. I also had the feeling that bad come to worse I could've jacked one of the front wheels off the ground to relieve the stress on the sleeve and make it easier to turn.

Thanks for the info guys....I got the steering wheel straightened now. I dont think I realized how touchy it was and I did a couple turns and got it stuck. Once I got the slip joint pliers out I was good to go. I was just nervous of twisting to hard and making something else worse.

One last thing though. Do the turnbuckles having to be facing a certain direction or are they alright whatever way the end up facing?

Thanks again.
