A buddy of mine just bought a 2014 2-dr auto Rubicon and I mentioned this thread to him. He went on https://www.moparownerconnect.com/Pages/global.aspx and was able to check out his build details online. Turns out he also has 3.73s, much to his dismay.

Learn something new everyday...

You don't have to email them. There is an owners page you can find navigating jeeps website where you can enter your vin and immediately print your build sheet. I did it a few months ago and saved a PDF to my desktop.

Ordered a 14 Rubicon. When you spec the auto trans the build system requires that you get the 4.10 diffs.

Worked for me. I would not be happy with a Rubicon with less than 4.10's.

We had an 08 with the 3.73's and they were ok but at the limit of effectivness with 33 inch tires. I always thought the 4.10's would be the same level of marginal but ok with 35 inch tires.

damn, you guys had me worried. Here i had an 07 jku rubicon and thought oh shit...

But i looked a bit, and i guess 07 was a 4.10 only for the rubi, and you could get any other model with it if you upgraded.

Are you sure? I only see mention of the 4:1 transfer case ratio, but nothing about the gear ratio.

Guys,

Don't forget the gear ratios in the transmissions.

If you look at the final drive ratio on them, the 5 speed auto with 3.73s is geared lower than the 6 speed manual with 4.10s.

5 gear in the auto is barely an overdrive. Plus the first 3 gears in the auto are very low.
