Default My mostly diy cargo carrier

I have the e-autogrilles smittybilt xrc replica rear bumper or whatever you call it. I looked over in my garage and saw a harbor freight steel cargo carrier that goes into your hitch.....I got this great idea to cut it up and weld it to my bumper.. This is my progress so far and end results.

First i decided to cut off the hitch portion of the cargo mount so it was jhust the carrier. I lucked out that it was a 7" chunk to fit behind the bumper to reinforce the top lip.

This is where i grinded off the paint or whatever, and where we are going to mount the 2" square tubing to raise the cargo carrier up.

Next we welded the 2" x 10" square tube to the carrier.

We also added some gussets to help strengthen the carrier.

Once that was done we welded it onto the tire carrier and again added some more gussets.

Looks awesome man! I'd love to see some pictures when you're done with it. I just installed my Smittybilt XRC rear today and now my Garvin trail rack doesn't fit. I'm thinking about doing something along these same lines. Good luck finishing up.

Thanks man! It took along time and note to any one else trying when you weld it will melt the paint all the way thru so you will have to do both sides. Im also debating taking the underwater weld putty to try and perfectly fill the seams before painting it , but not sure if it will be worth the time...

It was my first big fab attempt and dsword (my neighbor) helped weld everything. I couldn't have done it without his help welding. I am looking into some jerry cans soon to see what ill have to do for them. Best thing is it cost me only 50 bucks!
