Default Mud + Winches = Good Idea?

Is it okay to submerge a winch? I do lots of mudding and I'm trying to see if it will be okay if I get a winch and mud, I don't do a lot of wheeling where winches are really necessary and when I do get stuck a tow strap does the job.

Most any winch will be okay for moderate mud/water exposure but if you plan on submerging it, definitely go with a waterproof winch.

Thanks but the cable or synthetic rope they use probably won't like mud a lot right?

My cable does just fine. I just hit it with a pressure washer after a run. I only have a winch because of mud. No rocks here.

I haven't sunk mine yet, but the pressure washer hasn't hurt it.

If you will be in mud a lot, get cable instead of synthetic. You don't want dirt and sand inside the rope fibers. It will break down over time.

I had a warn 2.5 on my atv and I took them both through hell, all the mud and water it could go through and it still works, the only problem I have is that I got in such a bad hole that the gears grinded before I got out. I'd say that modern winches are up to the challange as long as you wash it off after you are done playing
