Years ago my buddy and I went to a "tire shop" the get new tires on his geo metro. He told them not to use the gun on the lugs because they are cheaper than plastic and will strip ... Tire guy says "no problem sir" and we sit and wait. A few minutes later we hear bvvt-bvvvvt. My buddy goes up to the desk and says "I told you not to use the gun" the tire guy says "they are working on another car sir' we look around and we are the only ones in the place. A few minutes later a guy comes out from the back and says "sir, 2 of your lug nuts are stripped and we don't have any to replace them". My buddy says " well what do ya know, get you ass on the phone, find the parts to fix it then get your ass in your truck go pick them up. Then get your ass back here and fix it ... easy fix". The tire guy says " cann't you pick 2 up on your way home?" My buddy says "So you want me to drive a car with 1/8 of the lug nuts missing, get in a wreck and sue you??? ... NO, you cann't afford me to fix it myself"
They had it fixed in no time after that.

Please tell me you are not saying $265 per wheel. My family used to own a brake shop and studs broke all the time (usually from the last numb-nut who put them on). New studs were like $1 a piece and took about a minute to put in. It was such a common occurance we wouldn't even mention it to the customer nor charge them for the new studs.

Here is how you remove them...

Here is how you replace them... Note he uses a CV nut as a spacer. You can use almost anything as a spacer.

Just do it in your driveway. Sure 30 studs is tedious but it's good bonding time with your jeep. And you can be sure when you put the wheels back on they are torqued right.

Autozone didn't list studs for the new wranglers (may just be too new to be in their computer yet). But I looked up my 2003 liberty and they are $1.99 a peice.

Really? I had the Gorilla lugs on my 7089s and hated them. Pulled them off and put the factory lugs back on. Since I had alloy stock wheels there didn't seem to be any difference in the lug nuts (other than the Gorillas came in a set of four, leaving the stockers on the spare, and the Gorillas were too large to fit my existing flat tire tools). If you have steel stock wheels, then there would be a difference (compare where the lug nut seats against the wheel), otherwise I don't think that there's any difference with which you need be concerned.

Dude, where are you located? If you're close to Georgia...I'll fix it for free if you buy the studs.

Believe me, I would totally do this on my own. I could fall asleep under my jeep since it's the one place that I enjoy hanging out the most. Anyways,....my jeep is stuck on a lift at the dealership with ALL 5 studs broken off of the left rear wheel. If there's a way to duct tape a tire on it so that I could get it home I would but there's no possible way to move it from where it is. I'm not sure if their insurance policy would allow me to work in there shop on my own car. God forbid the lift would break with the luck i'm having. I have a feeling that I'm being charged for the overnight shipment of the studs, the labor for him breaking the studs off, the labor for him to call me and take time to tell me that he broke them all off, and the labor for eating a sandwich while looking up how to change out a wheel stud.....oh and also for him to take the 10 minutes to actually do the job. $265.00 per tire. DON'T WORRY guys, i'm just having him do the one tire so that I can get it out of there. Then I'll change out all the rest myself and with the assistance of Mr. Beer can

This is ridiculous. From the time you pulled in the driveway to finish, I could have you done in around an hour. That's just highway robbery.

I work at a tire shop, and torque my own lug nuts @ 120. Spec is 110-135, and have never had a problem with my stock or aftermarket wheels. He must have air gun-ed the shit out of them.
