More on the great locker debate
I bought an ARB and compressor to lock my d30 front when I regear to 5.13.
I am running 35s and need to regear for towing my trailer. Since the regear required a new carrier in the D30 I decided to stretch my budget and get the ARB. (I wanted on board air anyway)
I planned to keep the stock LSD in the rear, until I realized I don't have a LSD in the stock D44 (got some bad info on that).
It is a DD and gets wheeled every other month. I don't really need it fully locked, but I hate to spend the money on labor twice. I get lots of snow and ice so I would an automatic locker be a bad idea? I hate to bust out another $800 for another ARB. What other options do I have? Anyone suggest a good LSD at a resonable price?

an auto locker in the rear probably not your best option no.
A LSD would be alright for you...but for only a few dollars more you could have another ARB or an E locker, wann stretch the budget just a little more??

welll seeing as how your already gonna have the air setup, it kinda makes sense to just get the other ARB. You could put something like a Detroit Truetrac LSD in there which is a helical gear based LSD for aobut 400.00....but it's not a locker and for about 600 you could have an Auburn Ected which is a clutch based LSD which electromagnetically locks full spool, but it will wear eventually being clutch based.....so for 800 you get yourself an ARB, if your already this far in...why not go all the way

1st choice is ARB for the rear too
or
Trade the ARB in for a 44 and install in the rear and to save money install an Aussie/lunch box locker in the front, and it only locks under drive power, unlocks when you let off. Never know it's there in 2wd.
Snow? What's snow?

I want the ARB up front, because if I am ever doing anything in front it is going to be selectable locker. I am in 4wd 50% of the time for 2-3months of Daily Driving in Ohio. Anything but a selectable locker or open front would be unsafe on the ice.
Plus I would be buying a new carrier for the front, just for the regear which seems like a waste.

Well, very similar...I went for regearing from 3.73 to 4.88's. As the reasoning went, while they are in there why not put a locker in. First it was going to be just the rear, but alas...stretch...and stretch...I put both in. Front and Rear ARB lockers and now have a compressor on board.
No regrets.

You can't go wrong with the ARB's. I put them in Front & Rear on my first YJ back in '94 (D35/D30) and even though my oldest son now has it, they're working great still and been running 35's for that long as well. (ok...he's gone all-out now...dedicated off-road rig with a F8.8 and spool in the rear, but the ARB is still in the front D30 and no issues. He's done Pritchet canyon in Moab at least a dozen times in that rig, and while he's broken axle shafts and U-joints, the locker and gears (4:10) keep working well. I've installed at least 7 ARB lockers over the years...they're bullet-proof.
Good Luck!
