IF Jeep ever offers a Hemi or turbo diesel in the JK, you'll see so many for sale so quickly the V6 will become a joke like the 4-cylinder YJ's.
I couldn't agree more. when I'm cruising on the Freeway in my 4 dr. sahara, I find that it does me no good to use the cruise control. every time I hit an incline, I have to down shift. I rarely am able to use 6th gear. I'm gonna have to slap in some 3:91's I think to compensate the loss of power. there is a HEMI conversion available, but I was quoted somewhere around $13,000. not feesable for me.

I think Jeep should look into adding a diesel option for the Wrangler. a well designed diesel would be unbeatable in a JK.

Your power problem is simple to fix. You have 3.21 gears right? Just regear your Jeep to a lower ratio. What size tires you have? If stock, I would go 4.10, if larger go lower. Regearing does not "void a waranty" and at least one guy on here had his transmission failure covered because he had regeared for his larger tires.

If you check out my profile, I have some pics of our current JK Unlimited. it's running 17" 33's at this time with only a 2 1/2" lift. yes, it has the 3:21 gears. I'm gonna check out some prices to see what it'll run me to re-gear it to 3:91's. man, before this JK, we leased a '07 Unlimited with 4:10's & an automatic. it seemed a bit peppier than our current JK with the 6 spd manual. the Jeep is actually my wifes, so unfortunately, it doesn't see allotta dirt....yet!

You won't sustain marked performance increases w/3.91s. I would vigorously encourage you to contemplate 4.56s (4.10 at the VERY least). I'm running 4.88s with 33s and it's a new Jeep.

WOW! your talking some really low gears! tell me, what's the RPM's running at freeway speeds with that set-up? did it kill your gas mileage to drop that low?

I get 15 around town, about the same on the freeway, a little more if I slow down and drive 60.

Check out Planman's tables and post in this thread:

4.56 may sound drastic with a manual tranny, just like 5.38 does with the auto, but drastic problems require drastic measures.
