3.8L JK is still slow. Regardless what numbers say, even with my 6spd and 4.10s it's a gutless wonder! lol

I don't get that impression at all.
When I step on it from a full stop, the acceleration is good, the nose comes up, with the left side leading the right.

Maybe the difference is in the tranny.

Superchips is the way to go call david at northridge4x4 link at the bottom. I ran the hypertech for a year now have the superchips flashpaq and there is no comparison at all. I run mine on 87 tune and it is a night and day difference and no wasted money on high octane gas.just 87 tune on 87 octane and a remarkable difference. Call david i am sure there is discount he has rolling now. I have a cai and noticed a very slight difference, but the superchips is just a bit more money and i noticed a huge difference and my wife yelled at me and said what did you do to this thing now why is it so fast??? Do not waste your time or money on another product you will be wasting both. Imho

Big, heavy 35s and 4.10s? No wonder it's sluggish.

My 4.88s turning 33s with a 6-speed are plenty around town or on the trail...

I'd love to see somebody "forget" to set the PCM back to stock and the dealer try to reflash the computer for an update. This procedure results in a fried PCM. You think warranty will cover THAT? No need to spout useless information. It simply isn't true. Dealers are already looking for every loophole to get out of literally every warranty repair they can. Reprogramming the PCM just gives fuel to the fire. There are those that say "leaves no footprint" and all that jazz. I got news. All the dealer has to do is pull the fuel and timing curve history and they can tell if the PCM has ever had a reprogram. Now, I'm not against programmers.....it's just that they can and will void warranty repair work under the right circumstances and those circumstances are very easy to meet.

Unfairly maligned?

The comparison of the 3.8L should not be against a 20 year old 4.0L straight six, but instead against some of its contemporary piers. One good example is the 4.0L in the Toyota FJ Cruiser and Tacoma. Both of these vehicles are in the same price range as our JKs and the FJ is arguably a direct competitor to the JK. They were even released in the same timeframe.

The 2007 FJ 4.0L produces 276 ft-lbs and 239 HP. If this can be attributed to and additional 200cc, DOHC and 24 valves, I think many of us would have been willing pay a few hundred bucks more for an upgraded engine/driveline given the numerous related threads in this forum.

I am not advocating Toyota or the FJ in any way, but in the highly competitive automotive market you have to at least "be in the ball park if not the game" and the current form 3.8L is not.

Or maybe I just need a parrot with a bigger and heavier right foot.

Well, obviously I was wrong about the 4.0. I thought that I had read somewhere that it had more output than the 3.8. my bad. please do not crucify me for not being a fan of the mini van engine. BTW, how reliable are the V-6 motors? I know from experience that you can easily pile on over 200+k on the 4.0. if I could have my way, the JK's would be diesel powered.

Thanks for all the replies. I really appreciate the help. the super charger would be sweet but I aint swimmin' in cash at this time. I know that 3:92, 4:10, 4:11 gears would be a good idea, but I'm trying to find a way to actually get more juice outta that freakin' motor before getting to carried away with the wifes toy. I gotta look into these chips a bit more.
