Just an idea, but a lot of door glass in vehicles use the big rivets to hold rollers, tracks, etc. on, so any glass shop should have a gun handy.

Also, If you happed to live around a Harbor Freight then you can pick up a "Large Capacity Hand Riveter" for $18

(Mods, that link is to their info site, not their online buying site. Anyone that wants to buy online needs to search for the above term on their regular website.)

Bingo. Flashing Lights. My neighbor has a lot of tools from them and sure enough, has the rivet gun. He will be on his boat this weekend and will bring the riveter home to check. Thanks for the "memory jog".

Batteries have been known to grow legs and walk in rural TN as well. They take bolt cutters and lop the cables and are gone faster than which would shut down most alarms pdq.

I travel a lot and some cities are not so domesticated. For example, in Baltimore this week, a house on the block next to where my son lives was fire bombed. Drug dealers.
It is really too bad we can not just shoot them. Homeland Security, what a joke.

If DC had included the hood in the alarm system but I guess that 50 cent switch was too much for a $30,000 vehicle. In the US, a vehicle is stolen about every 25 seconds.

actually, any decent alarm comes with a back-up battery (maybe not the factory one), so that the electrical can't be cut to shut it down - the back-up keeps the alarm blaring.

maybe it is the parts of the country i have lived in, but i've never heard of anyone having a battery or anything else from under the hood stolen.
