I ordered mine the same week i got my jeep. Ive had it for two years now and its worked every time with no problems. Install was a joke, it only take a few mins.

It should come standard on all jeeps in my opinion. I dont know what Jeep is waiting for.

Default Other Hood Locks

Has anyone tried the other hood locks?

Tuffy - http://www.quadratec.com/products/13103_1010.htm

Rugged Ridge - http://www.quadratec.com/products/13103_100.htm

How do these actually work? Do they just keep the OEM latch locked in place or do they replace the OEM latch completely?

I tried the RR hood lock, which is why I'm looking at the Mopar one. The RR lasted for about 5 months, after that the arm that keeps the factory hood latch from moving had a bunch of play in it. I've had no experience with the Tuffy lock.

Not yet, but I'm thinking about getting the Tuffy lock. THe Mopar is way too expensive. I definitely want a hood lock before I install a compressor!

i toyed with this dilemma too. ordered the tuffy lock last week, mainly because it was 1/3 the price. should be arriving today, so i can comment on it and the install later, but while it is nice that the MOPAR lock uses the OEM key, i think for $100 I'm okay having an extra key on my keychain, or even in the glove box. just my 2 cents

The RR one is only $20. If it works but only lasts 5 months, that may not be too bad! Did you try to tighten it up? Seems like there should be some way to do that.

I want to go with the cheaper one because I have grille inserts and will have to alter the center insert to make this work. I don't want to spend too much and find out I can't cut an access hole in the center grille insert.

Yeah, tightened, re-tightened. After a while things got too worn to tighten any more. I know, what do you want for a $20 security device?

The only reason Mopar even makes them is because they are required to be on the Jeep from the factory in European Countries. If Europe didn't require it by law I am pretty sure Mopar would not offer one.

As for the other hood locks, I have no personal experience with them. When I was looking, the RR just didn't look strong based on the pics. The price for me was a little worrying also. The Tuffy wasn't available when I purchased my Mopar one. The Tuffy looks a lot more promising than the RR. I am pretty sure the Tuffy uses a modified cambolt style locking mechanism that they use in all their other products. That style lock is very easily picked. The Mopar uses the same style mechanism that are on the doors and the tumbler already on the Jeep. Still can be picked, but not so easy. I am not trying to say any one is better than the other. Again I don't have experience with the others. I am just giving things for people to take into consideration based on my experience with several diferent types of locking mechanisms. The way I see it...How much is security really worth to you?

I just bought a 2013 Unlimited Sahara and ordered the Mopar hook lock through Amazon for $126 based on the good reviews. Also bought the heavy duty rivet tool from Harbor Freight Heavy Duty 17-1/2" Hand Riveter With Collection Bottle
I agree that this should be a
standard Jeep option.

Installing the hood lock also took me ten minutes. Although the instructions for removing the grill should say pull the bottom straight out. It took me a few seconds to figure that out. End result is it works great!
