Mods to run 40s

superior is a sponsor here and so, i might recommend them but, i have also run alloy usa shafts in the past and have found them to work out well too. i understand that ten factory has some nice shafts as well an, when they come out, the foote front shafts should be real nice. because of all the hype, i am now testing out a set of rcv shafts and, while they are nice, they are really pricey and, i'm not sure if they really are worth the extra money. also, i have found that they do need greasing on a regular basis in order to keep them from being squeaky when turning a low speeds. being that regular chromo shaft use full circle clips, you will not have the kind of u-joint failures that are so common on factory shafts.

I know it's off-topic for the thread, but have you had your gears cryo-treated? That could possibly help that "weak link" for you.

actually, i'm almost at 85,000 on our white JK and 40,000 on our orange JK and, i work from home. these are all miles driving to the trails and wheeling them.
couldn't agree more.
but what fun is it to trailer your rig
did you really type all that from your droid???
Metal components in the drivetrain fatigue over time. Wheeling hard with a heavy rig eventually will result in failures. It is inevitable.
If you are prepared to spend the money, do the trail repairs, and trailer your rig for far away events, you can run 40s on built 44s.

Joe.... do you really need to ask? She hands me the keys once she's done in the mud and expects me to work miracles on cleaning it.
Best part was driving on the road was throwing giant candy bar looking size chunks of mud at all the other clean Jeeps!

WOL and Planman, you are nuts! But make us novice wheelers really think before we do MODs and I appreciate that! I was waiting to see when Dynatrac chimed in.
My next purchase is a Prorock for the front. Why is drivetrain always last on the MOD schedule?

Love these threads!
Since I became a member on this forum I have been reading everyone of these "Can I run 40's on a ....." threads and actually tailored all my upgrades from what I gleamed on them. WOL and Planman, you have both been invaluable resources for these upgrades and I thank you. I am replying as a mid level entry in this process. I am still running 35's right now but I am hoping to bump up to a 38" or 39" this summer. After reading all these 40's threads I decided that I wanted to pump all available Jeep funds into preparing my Jeep for bigger tires as well as hard wheeling. Where I live we mainly do rock crawling. My TF short arm kit is going to LA next week with eyes on the 6" springs and shocks (coilovers someday...). As a word of warning to those out there contemplating starting this process 1. You will be tweaking things forever and just when you get it where you like it something else goes out of whack 2. This shit is expensive to do right. If your not committed to spending the money to do it right then you are asking for trouble.
While I won't be joining the true 40's club, here is a cheers to those that have
