Minimum requirements for a 285/70/17
Guy's
I have a 2004 TJ with a 1.25BL,4" spring lift,SYE,Woods driveshaft,ADJ track bars and control arms,1"MML and 33 duratracks.I recently purchased a 2012 2 door sport. The stock ride and MPG is amazing compared to my TJ.What I want to do is add a spacer lift and run 285/70/17 tires.I don't want to modify anything else.My wife and I will be touring the country in this so ride is important. What is the minimum requirements?
Thanks,
Vince

You don't HAVE to make any mods to fit that size. But, if you use the stock wheels, they will rub the control arms at full steering lock. This is because of the stock wheels deep backspacing. This can be cured with wheel spacers but a better option is to use an aftermarket wheel with less backspacing. Most people use a 9 inch wide wheel with 4.5 inches of backspacing.

This is my jeep with 285/70-16 Nittos, I added Unlimited Rubicon springs to it which bumped it up just under 2". The tires would have fit fine though without it since they only measure 32" tall installed.
