Default middle of winch installation help!

Does this ground wire from the solenoid pack HAVE to be grounded at the motor? Or can it be grounded to the frame? Heres a pic. Reason why I ask, I have a Shrockworks front stubby with skid plate. (pain in the ass doing this with 1 person) I got everything together, and the wire evidently broke at the really small female ground connector. If it does have to ground there im gonna have to go get another connector, and pull it all apart and do it again. :(

I am not an electrical expert, but have installed many of my own winches over the years. I have always looked for a good ground on the frame, scraped away paint to get to bare metal, and then bolted on the grounding wire. Essentially, anything grounded to the frame is sharing a ground with the motor, battery etc. After the grounding cable is attached, I normally come back with touch up paint to brush the remaining exposed areas of paint that the grounding ring didn't cover.
