Max tire for Dana 30
Hey Guys,
Putting together a project plan for my JK. Got a 2009 Unlimited X Auto. When I upgrade, i want it done right, so i'm lookin at the 4" LCG Teraflex kit, all new control arms, shafts, gears etc. But I was wondering what is the max tire size my Dana 30 front axle will handle?

so long as you're easy on the skinny pedal and don't wheel very hard, you can easily push 37's especially if you run chromo axle shafts. if you want to be on the safer side of things, i would stick with 35's.

Also, running lockers increases the risk of breakage.
I ran 35s on my Cherokee D30 front and D35c rear with no lockers and a 4.7 Stroker motor. Not a problem at all as long as you don't wheel too hard. I use my Cherokee for mud runs, since I had posi in the rear and open diffs in the front.

What is exactly is going easy on the skinny or not wheeling to hard? Does that mean don't exceed 3000rpm when taking off and not going over a trail rated 7 or higher?

IMHO- regardless of going hard or easy on the "skinny pedal", do you really think the V-6 has enough grunt to break anything??? 
Throw a sleeve, gusset on it, add gears to turn the tires and have fun!
If you had some power you'd need to work about the weight and torque.
I'd run 39's on my D30 if I could gear down to a 5.38. Since that's not possible or practical, I will stay with my 4.88's and run 37s.
