Default Lower front control arms.

Jeeper friends,

I come for your experience and advice to choose the right lower front control arms for my 10A jku Rubicon.

Ever since new, I found that the steering was flighty and on the highway, the jeep is all over the place. So much so, that although my wife loves the jeep. She hates driving it. I guess I got used to it.

Soon after buying the jeep brand new, I installed 285/70r17 ( because winter tires in the winter is law over here, and I seized the occasion to over size the tires 1 size up) Duratracs and levelled out the ride with Teraflex front 1 inch coil spacers.

I finally got an alignment and found that the jeep is out of specs with a caster of 3.1 when the lowest in spec is 3.5. The dealer said they would use those caster washers to bring it within specs, but I refused to have them break the control arm mounts to achieve this.

So, I come to you for advice for the best price/quality ratio. I need something that will withstand winter salty roadsand extreme cold conditions. I was told to steer clear of rough country and a few others. I find interesting the Tier 3 on Ebay that use the Currie Johnny joints, but not sure how those joints deal with salty winter roads.

I am not lifted enough to use the AEV brackets.

What do you think??!

Aev brackets arent necessarily bad based off lift height... It flattens arms and changes geometry. That being said yes id just get arms also and adjust. Most brands will work fine. Johhny joints are great and many people have similar versions. Id avoid any that have a rubber bushing on one side and make sure each end is jointed. From my experience getting a decent joint thats not rubber they will last well. I was more concerned ripping factory link mounts off.

No idea how well the the joints would hold up, but the zinc coating on metalcloak ca's is getting very favorable reviews for winter conditions, even after being beat up in the rocks.

If I were doing only front lower control arms I would get Evo, they are the beefiest I have found. They are made from 2.00 “ x .281” Wall DOM Tubing.

All that said I bought all 8 arms from Metalcloak. I didn't feel like trying to piece together a control arm set from vendor A, B, and C, then having to worry about adjust-ability.

You could also go with a fixed arm. synergy's fixed lowers have the new DD bushing in both ends.

If you're going to go to the trouble of arms, you might as well add more lift. There I go spending other people's money again

Owned jeeps for some 20 years before going away into the Land Rover world and back to jeeps. I mean to say that I have been there and done that!!!!

So with the experience I achieved, I will no more own overlifted, overtired/undergeared, bad angles, too small brakes, geometry out of whack, vulnerable driveline erc...and all in all a jeep that sure looked good, but was nowhere even close to as pleasant to drive as it was in stock form. I've seen too many guys add mods over mods, only to end up with a jeep that went a little further in the trail tham a stock jeep, but had to be trailered to that darn trail!!!!

All I am looking to achieve, is fix a very close to stock jeep steering problem that was there when brand new. I don't want to spend $500-$600 for lower front control arms. So I'm asking for the best bang for my buck.

I have RK 1.5 coils front and rear. My caster was at 3.0. Afer a few weeks I added to RK front lower control arms. my caster is now in spec at 5.0.
