Probably a good idea but I'd prefer to spend money elsewhere on my jeep if possible. I'll keep checking and see if there is a way to build a stronger hinge setup and post it if successful.

I don't think fabricating a stronger replacement for the OEM hinge is something you'll end up saving money on, or even accomplishing at all. If it was so easy, I'd expect to see more competitors to Teraflex's hinge.

I don't recall if this has been mentioned, but my Sport didn't come installed with cabin air filters even though there are slots for them, so I installed some. No more trail dust thru the HVAC any more.
