I wonder if there is a way to mount it on the spare tyre by swapping the mounting bolts for longer ones and bolting it over the spare?

Another $10.00 way to mount high lift on front factory bumper I'm sure u could do it on an aftermarket one as well as along as you don't have a winch... As. You have to drill through your bumper...

Personally I didn't want it on my hood due to the rust and I didn't want it inside my rig to take up space, and on the roll bar I have my axe mounted already. So for now I took off my 5th tire and the hi lift mounts perfectly too the 5th tire mount horizontal or vertically even on an angle.I don't have the funds as of now to buy a fifth tire and rim. Even when you open the tail gate it does not hit or rub against anything. The only problem I see or actually hear is when I drive it rattles a little. Oh and the factory bolts from the 5th tire can be used to mount the hi lift. It's secure and there is no movement, besides the handle rattling but the isolator prevents most of it. People might say well what are you going to do with a hi lift without a 5th tire well if you know anything about a hi lift there many ways to use and and many uses for it not just for changing a tire.Hope this helps save you money!
Haven't seen this done before! Good idea!

Does anyone have a good idea as to how to reinforce the rear tailgate hinges for a larger tire (35s) without purchasing an aftermarket bumper and tire carrier?? I saw the TeraFlex JK HD Adjustable Spare Tire Mounting Kit but don't have an extra 700 laying around to pay for something that should be easy to mod.

I read a few ideas but wound up getting the Ace bumper/tire carrier, it's one of the less expensive bumper/tire carriers and its built extremely well

I chose to replace the back bumper specifically too avoid prolonged wear and tear on my tailgate

They work well but are a pain to install. You have to break loose the nuts that are spot welded to the tailgate.

I'd just save up for a bumper/tire carrier
