I actually just got mine, and its the best $84 I've spent on the Jeep. How one goes without I have no idea! I'm just speaking of the shade in general too. They are American made right in my backyard also.

6 years of funk! I found money, candy, buttons (hehe) , hair, bobby pins and just general grime. This is how it looks after 2 light coats today.

Also my roommate who moved out the other day, gave me a hitch and ball that had been rusting in the back of his ram for years. I hit it with the wire brush and sprayed it with rust reformer and it looks good now. Got a pin at the parts store today for $4

I got a 750 lumen cree LED for $30 mounted under a new license plate bracket ( $30 also, scratch n dent) which i hit with plastidip before installing. The LED pod is wired to the factory reverse lights.

I know its better to sand down to the metal for lining the floor with Herculiner but what are the cons to not sanding and just applying the liner to the paint that is there now? Peeling? Flaking?

I want to do my floor but the whole sanding process is too much. And its too costly to get it done... Any one put liner without sanding? If so how does it hold up?

Not sanding it causes the bed liner not to stick or hold up as good just like any other paint. If your wanting a good quality finish that will hold up you need to scuff everything up really good then clean the area before applying the bed liner.

I didn't do any sanding, and so far so good. Even in high wear areas where my foot would rub all the time, it seems to be holding up. But it's only been a few weeks.

Years ago I did my grille in the same rustoleum rattlecan liner: I did no sanding and three or four coats. I have since had to lay one coat on every year.. but I'm ok with it as I would expect the grill to chip no matter what from road debris.

Also did my rocker panel/pinch seam and rear corners years ago, 3 coats each and they have stayed very nice. A bit of touch up once in a while just seems like routine maintenance to me.

Thank you guys! I don't use my jeep to move heavy equipment so i am not worried about scuffs etc. I only wanted to protect the floor from rusting really. I have great floor mats that pretty much stop me from marking up the floor and I have a big rubber mat covering the whole floor in the back. I only use my jeep to trail run, cruise around and sunday drives. We have other vehicles for dirty work so its all good! I think I may just clean the floor really well and sand it enough to give the liner something to grab on. I figure in the future if it peels etc, I will get it sanded down to the metal and do it right so to speak. So right now I'm broke (Buying jeep stuff and DIY) and I figure it will help regardless. This is gonna be my sons first vehicle in about 10 years so I want to pass it down in the best shape it can be. When he owns it I'll own the newest model at that point lol!!! Or a classic Jeep that i can restore!

Thanks again guys !

Heres what i did today...

I decided to unscrew the hinges while the door was on. Risky but i kept my head and it worked like a charm. As long as your windows down and your holding the wieght closet to the hinges then you should be good to go. Make sure everything is disconnected though...

I also cleaned up and painted the rusty part on the doors where the hinges lay. I kept the old paint lines to guide the freshly painted hinges. Also didn't want the extra thickness to screw things up so i stayed away from the edges...

Stuck the screws into a box to catch just the heads

And finally lined the hinges with the old paint lines and popped the dors back in place. Bad pic tho! It doesn't do it justice but it looks awesome in person. I was gonna paint them all but like the half painted look

All in all it was an excellent day! I felt lucky to not ding or scratch anything my first time taking the doors off. I heard some pretty nasty first go's!

i bought a stubby antenna for 8 bucks! But got home and it doesn't fit! The adapters were too small. The jeep antenna is 5/16 at the threaded end and not one adapter even came close! Whats worse is the salesman came right to my jeep and swore it would fit. But it was only 8 bucks and to return it would cost twice that in gas!

Tomorrow we head to town! Anyone know where I can get a good stubby antenna that fits the jeep? I never use the radio!
We only have walmart and canadian tire so if anyone bought one at either place i would love your help...

More DIY to come! lol!

Peace!

I used conduit measured from roll bar to top bolt on hinge pillar. I bent top of tube 90 degrees so it lays against roll bar. I then used hose clamps to go around roll bar holding the grab handle in place at top. . I then used a longer bolt that fits where the original bolt in the trim fit and tied in the conduit there. Wa-lah. Grab handle. Oh and I fit the vinyl tubing over the conduit to give it a nice feel and look.
