I did 1 better.
Used some Decorative Aluminum plating that has hole punched in it.
No issues with cooling, even in heavy traffic at 107 degrees with the AC running....

My concern, and the reason I have yet to spray the underside of my top, is... I'm wondering how well finish holds up where you turn the peices linking the t-s together.. Seems like it would wear off.

Use a bit of tape stuffed in hole to keep bedliner or paint off threads and they'll go back in smoothly.

Been using mine now since the fall ...and no signs of chipping or peeling. If you prep it right and remove hardware ..then mask off , spray and give time to dry it should be fine.
