I was looking at making this pull out device (youtube video attached). It's titled Super Wench but look what it's attached to: Trying out the superwinch - YouTube. It looks easy to make, relatively cheap (use rebarb for the stakes) and looks like it would work.
I was just thinking, (can you smell the smoke) what about a Danforth anchor ?

It would plow in soft ground and give you that little extra pull to get out of alot of situations (if you're not buried up to axles).
