Default Low Cost Dashboard Mount?

Was wondering if anyone has attempted a low cost dashboard mount similar to:

X-caiver's Blog: Vector Offroad JK E-Dock RAM Mount dashboard thingy--$130

I really like "Mine without that stuff" but without the two extended arms over the radio.

or

Jeep Wrangler Dash Organizer by Rugged Ridge--$70-$90

Seems or appears to be very plastic like.

Overall goal:
Straight metal bar across/attached to the dashboard
RamMount (lockable for some devices) for GPS, TrailDash, Cell, Tablet....

TIA

I recently installed the rugged ridge dash on my JKU. The bar and securing hardware is all metal. The shelves are plastic with metal thumb screws on the back to secure the shelves. The bar is handy to attach camera mounts to and gps as well. So far no problems with it yet.

Can you use RAM mounts on this??? And if so, can you take the trays off?

the trays are removable, and it looks like you could use RAM handlebar mounts on it.

This seems like a cheaper way to go. I want the Vector one, but geeze it's pricy after all the RAM attachments. Wish someone made something else a little cheaper.
