I don't run a winch yet on my jk but what makes it waterproof over a "non-waterproof" winch? Even when you're not underwater in the winch they see all the elements anyways. Snow, rain, sand and mud. I was working for a towing company and our flat bed trucks and tow trucks didn't have waterproof winches. They saw a lot of the elements and still worked fine. Sounds like "waterproof" is just more money for the same thing

I'm not 100% sure but from what I read, I think the seals are different. I'm sure there's more things that separate them though. Also if I ever get stuck with the winch under water I want to know its going to work and not damage it.

Actually, my recon cost far less than the top brand names. Most are built in Gawain or China anyway. From there, just different components. As for the tow trucks, winch in the rear? Winch behind front bumper? Different than being exposed on a front bumper at 80mph for miles and hours at a time. As far as what makes them waterproof? It here are measured tests to determine that.

I also have the recon winch with synthetic rope. I got it with the bundle pack that comes with a wireless remote, snatch block, tree saver, winch cover, and some D rings. It's never failed me yet and I get it wet all the time in the rain. And snow. For the price it's been great

If I could have broken my RECON 10.5k, I would have by now!
After the synth got sketchy I put steel cable on and no problems. Everything still works, even the remote control.
You're going to need some heavy cable from the battery to the winch, so you might want some Tuff Stuff AMP connectors when you get the winch.
Otherwise you'll need some tinned lugs and welding cable off ebay. PM me if you want reliable sources.
