Longest Lasting MT - Trail Grappler, Toyo MT, or ?
The time has come to replace the Trail Grapplers I have ran for 6 years. Oddly, I bought the 5th wheel (KMC) a year later so have only rotated 4 and the mileage has approached 80k. I do not off road and it is my dd.
I am impressed with how long they last (validates the cost) and not as impressed with their traction on new england roads when the snow is not fresh. I prefer the MT over the AT and as I move up to 35s getting ready to spend $400 each for a new set, is there anything else worth it to consider?
Have read the federals have had structure issues (older model?) and the mastercraft wear quickly. Also the toyo's are heavy. Cooper STT Pro?
Bottom line is I would prefer to spend the money on the Nitto's if I know I can expect similar life out of the tire. What other hard compound tires are worth looking at in a 35x12.50r20

that's a tough one. Lots of variables. I have mastercraft MXT's now. i'm just over 30K miles on them and they are a tad past half way gone. I figure a 45-50K tire when all said and done. I've never had good luck with goodyear or BFG's lasting very long. Swampers, HELL NO> I've never had Toyo's or Nitto tires, so I can't speak to them.

By luck do you mean longevity also? I think I have been spoiled by this last set - if I had the 5th wheel from start I may have gotten to 100k... it becomes a math equation - lol... $400 each for 100k vs $270 or $300 or $3change for maybe half of that? If that is the case, I can't argue with the Trail Grapplers at all - I assume the Toyo MT are similar.
Was just interested in hearing what other MTs people had a lot of luck with from a longevity standpoint.

Well shoot. I didn't notice you're running a 20 inch rim. I'm running 35x1250x17 and will move to the 37s.
This is my second set of KM2s. First set lasted just over 50,000 miles. I do rotate mine every 5,000 miles or so (every oil change).

I'm giving the Kumho KL71s a shot. So far I've been very impressed. Roughly 10k(I know that's not much) but they have 2mm of wear. Wheeled a few times and haven't chunked any and they pull/clean very well in the mud. They also balanced very well and are smooth and quiet.
