Agree with going with the rear first--which is what I did. However, If you already have a factory rear LSD, and I could see the argument that you could throw the locker up front first, that way you'd have a traction device at both ends.

Locking the front cost me $300 total. Somebody tell me how to do that in the rear.

What did you put in the front for $300?

Lunchbox lockers, you can self-install in your driveway.

Aussie locker. $300 and three hours of semi-competent wrenching. That's the reason why I did my front. The back requires a locker with a new carrier which complicates the entire deal setting up gears and crap. Plus I don't want a automatic locker in the rear since it makes the rear end twitchy in the rain, which means big money for a selectable. The automatic front locker isn't noticable in 2WD, and it doesn't snow here.

All my Jeep money is going towards building a new house. Once that's done, it's axles and 40's.

I have ARB's front and rear. I try a trail without them then if I get hung up I back out and engage them and go at it again.
Helps me get a better feel of what my rig is capeable of.
This

If only getting one, do the rear.

Another reason is steering -- when you lock the front, it's difficult to steer. Most of the time I use my rear only. Turn the front on only when absolutely necessary.

I have a factory tru-track in the rear and am going to be putting a detroit up front when I regear, I recently went out to Hidden Falls here in Central Texas and while I had a blast, I really could have used a little help up front on some of the harder stuff. The LSD in the back did a great job but if I had anything up front I could have avoided needing a tow strap assist up one of the falls. There was so much loose stuff and such a short approach that I really needed that added traction. That was the only time that day I needed help and we did go on higher rated trails later in the day as well, but I still can't wait to get the detroit in the front with the gears and try it all again to see the difference.

my 2 cents
