ARB Air Locker vs Yukon Zip Locker - YouTube

Just an opinion, but I wouldn't call that "as good or better" ...
Your right, but the Yukon is still a good locker IMO. And, the test was done in 2009, maybe a new test is in order? Still, ARB are too expensive for me and alot of folks. They might be the best, but my pocket book went with they Yukons. I hope I never put my rig in anything that could cause any kind of breakage.

Yeah, I'm not bashing the Zip, just tossing out information. I've never run one, and do not even know anyone that does to hear first hand reviews. And I can certainly understand the budgetary concerns, this chit gets expensive quick.

But I will point out one more location, the 101 article posted earlier in this thread has a blurb on the zip...

I know this is another debate in itself but my opinion is that your are better off locking the front instead of just the rear. I have seen many guys locked in the rear struggle where myself or others with the front locked had no issues. Yes some of this is driving skill... but only so much when you get stuck in clay 2 feet deep going straight.

I am cheap but would probably do it again even if I had the money. I have an Aussie up front and I love it. I primarily see a huge change in capabilities in real soft clay, mud and getting over those slicker rocks. my .02

I locker up front is usually where to start. How many videos/pics have you seen with a front tire in the air.

I could only afford 1 rear locker....lol

If its snowy then Detroit true track or selectable if you need a locker and want it bullir proof Detroit locker...

I run Detroit rear ARB front, don't have to think about it, just point and shoot...had a co press or failure and left me with no front locker so I will keep a good old Detroit in rear...

Default Just another opinon

If I could afford only one locker it would be a selectable locker {ARB , E-locker , OX} my reasons are when youre climbing youre loading up the rear end and thats where you need the most traction, in the mud I dont see a advantage of having the front locked vs. rear. My personal reason for not liking automatic lockers is they have to sense wheel slip before locking if youre already putting alot of power to that axel when IT decides to lock that can be very rough on the axel shaft, Also I live in the snowbelt and you dont want the axel locked on the road at speeds in snow. At the price of installation you only want to do it once. Just my opinion.

Ice snow rain and auto lockers is a bad combo.

I would have to disagree, having driven a pickup in New England for 7 years

This is a matter of opinion. If you have plenty of car control then its not an issue at all. If not then you could be in for a rude awakening.

Not true!

A auto locker is locked all the time it unlocks when you turn via a ratcheting system but its locked up always...when you turn the difference in torque on the wheels allows it to unkey and slip a little that's why when turning you can hear the Detroit locker clicking as soon as I straighten out a bit it engages.
