Default Lockable rooftop storage

Hey guys, so I'm going to be driving from AK to SoCal here soon, and am considering getting a roof rack to carry my gear if it'll be cheaper than the shipping for the items I can fit up there (plus, awesome excuse to get a roof rack). Anywhat, I'm wondering if (besides the lockable thule/yakima/whatever aerodynamic containers) there is a good way to secure items on the roof rack vs theft. Like maybe a steel cable net with locks on it? I'm concerned about people swiping whatever random gear I have up there (maybe a bed, some plastic cases with camping gear, a cooler) and I really want an excuse to expense this rack for my trip.

Hah thanks man, most of my searches ended up with cargo area lockacble storage or just roof racks. I have a 4 door and would love to get the Gobi if I can justify it. And since I'm moving for work, maybe I can even make it a tax write off!

I've got a Garvin Industries Wilderness Rack that I use for long trips. It's extremely durable. I've never had a problem with people stealing stuff from it; usually I just lash everything down with ropes and cargo straps. That rack system can take Yakima / Thule accessories so I guess you could put a lockable cargo box on if you needed more security.

Most of what I find is roof racks. But there is also Tuffy products that are good but the roof product is semi small. What I was thinking is you could strap everything that was bigger with steel cables and just get a lock for them and buy the Tuffy roof rack for your smaller (maybe more valuable) things. Just an idea!

Jake - Thanks man, I was kinda thinking the same thing if I can fabricate something like that. I appreciate you checking!

gwalker - Yeah man I considered just rolling with no locks... but I don't have THAT much faith in every person walking past my Jeep in the middle of the night haha. I'll check out that rack though!

Thanks for the responses guys!

There are these Paksafe luggage security nets that might work but could be cut with cutters however it would deter most people.
