one thread said this about the alum re: poison spyder anyway
We've pretty much decided against the idea of doing an aluminum copy of the existing Brawler Lite bumper. Mostly because it still requires a steel sub-structure to have enough strength for the winch mount and recovery points. And the Brawler Bar would still have to be made out of steel also, or it would just be a pretzel waiting to happen. The result would be a bumper that is not much lighter, because of the additional steel components, weaker in many areas, and much more expensive due to the higher cost of the aluminum and the extra fabrication of the additional steel components. A few of you might still want one even with those caveats, but we don't think there would be enough demand to justify the costs of tooling up for it and producing/inventorying them in production quantities.
Look at the aluminum bumpers that are currently on the market. They usually are just an aluminum shell, and still have a steel sub-structure to provide the strength they need for the winch mount and recovery points. The weight advantage ends up being almost negligible, while the cost is disproportionately high. If we decide in the future to offer an aluminum bumper, it will be an entirely new design, not just a copy of our current steel one.

Guess it also depends on the target audience you are reaching. Not planning to spend on a hemi and my previous experience with steel made my previous 2010 jeep a tford. Is there an alternative? Some steel alloy?

well i just got off the phone w/ northridge 4x4
I orderd the poison spyder mid bumper first I understood it was 75 lbs aprox and 20 for skid then I read later it was 98 and skid was 20 lbs. my ups delivery says ship weight is 138 lbs so I called up and told them these weights are all over the place im running a stock suspension on my rubicon they called poison spyder and now they claim it weighs 92lbs for the ps mid and 30 lbs for the skid !!!! this isn't what I call being up front with the weights they should be posted on the product page along with description . if we the purchaser don't lke it then some ones supposed to occure the return shipping cost !who? guess who ?
so now im lookin at a 120 lb bumper and if I choose a smaller winch say 60 lbs more were at 160 more than stock bumper its very nice to show a pic of a sweet bumper then find out you better be up on 37s with a bds lift kit to carry it prob not so nice
