I'd recommend 35's if you plan on heading off road. 37's IMHO are overkill for just starting out and open up a new hole your wallet. 35's feel good on and offroad, don't need major mod's to run and give JKs the stance they were meant to have.
Personally I love Full Traction's line of 3" lifts and they have different price points you can get in at.
Keep in mind the rear tire carrier though. At 35 you can crack the stock carrier. Busted mine after a year with a 35 hanging on it.

Hope I can help and be helped -
I have a jk 4door rubi with Toyo 285/75/17 - and a 2.5" tera flex BB - Added steel bumpers and winch and lost almost an inch and regained most of the origional rake. Still looks OK but not much clearance off road.
I Joined a couple jeep clubs where the runs match up with the members jeeps - Most of the runs are wet and rocky so rocks are slippery- New England - The other jeeps have short wheel bases and much higher clearance. I often bottom out over the rocks. Easy to slip on the wet rocks and land on top.
I think 2 more inches in the middle would clear almost everything I have banged or scrapped. I hear that a 3 inch lift gives more than 3 inches. I think I need 3.5 to 4 inches of actual lift to hang with these guys and not be the one slowing the group down.
I like the performance with these tires. Seems they do well with the stock Rubi.
I want a quality ride and want to install the lift myself - no cutting.

This is a great place to start! You will need to decide what you are going to do with your JK. For me, after deciding what I was going to do with my JK, I had to consider my budget, you must do the same. You can easily wrap up $2,$3-$5K into a lift and tires, plus the possibility of new driveshafts, control arms, tire carriers etc. Welcome to the forum and the Jeep life!
