Default lift kits

So i'm looking for a good lift kit at an affordable price. i would love to get a full traction ultimate 3" lift, but i'm not willing to pay $1,700. I was looking at the rough country 4" lift, but apparently it's a very basic lift system. i've also had my eye on BDS-suspension.

I guess what i want to know is: 1) should i get the basic rough country kit or full traction economy, at lower prices, but then add on track bars and what not, or 2) should i get a complete BDS 3" kit.

and if the rough country is a good, affordable choice to get me started, then what should i expect to be needing down the road. and whats the difference between gas and hydrolic shocks? does it matter?

thanx
