Lift/installation

Depends on what lift and your experience level. For a budget boost or basic coil spring lift less than 3", hand tools, a good jack and jackstands will do. If you get a more complex lift with more components, it may be wise to pay a professional shop. I can tackle basic stuff like bolt on lift kits by myself, but for something more complex like gears or technical work, I would take it to a shop.

I had a shop do mine for a few reasons. I dont have most of the tools I needed for my lift. I live in a townhouse so no place to really put it up on stands and work on it and the biggest I dont have ANY experience and the last thing I needed for my DD was to either not get it back together (at all or correctly) in time or have something go wrong on the trail. If I had 2 of the 3 things above I may have tried it with some help from experienced jeepers. To me it was worth the piece of mind to know an experienced shop did it, plus if anything came in wrong with the parts of they break something they will take care of it.

it does depend on your capabilities.. but I have 0 mechanical experience and put my TF 2.5" on with another forum member's help.. it was pretty easy. I'd suggest doing it on your own for the basic lifts. Just ask for some help/shop/tools whatever you need and I'm sure someone will be there.

EVERYONE is right on here. To each his own! Lifting on your own will take time and effort. Some think it's easy, some think it's a challenge. You will always run into a little bump along the way with installation ie skipping a step, not reading dierections, drank to much . In the end result, Your very proud of what you did and you learned how to lift your jeep and basically have a bond with it! The plus side is you now know what part goes where how the lift works and you can always take away, fix and or replace if needed.
For those who paid to put it on, They had it done professionally and it was done with you not having any sweat besides your pocket. If you never lifted a Jeep then when something goes wrong.. you find yourself on this site asking people why your jeep is.... Or you'll come back to the shop that lifted it and they might charge you to diagnose the problem and also have you pay to fix it.
These are some examples of each. I always go the first choice of doing it myself. You can ask another jeeper because we will always come by to help and bond with you and BEER. You feed us with pizza and beer and we're there in the grind wrenching with you or maybe even for you. Plus when you have one Jeeper there, Others will come. it's a Jeep thing. I can assure you if you ask fellow Jeepers they will sometime or another stop by to help you.. Plus youtube and this site is all you need to know how to lift a Jeep GOOD LUCK TO YOUR OWN DECISION and have fun.

What I was looking at was a
Teraflex 4" LCG suspension lift with shocks. This will be my first lift soni think I'll take it to a shop. Even though I have some experience with this, I'll play it safe! Thanks for the help!
