Default Let's see your homebrew rear storage shelf!

I am thinking about making a rear overhead shelf, and looking for some ideas. I would like to keep it high, and try and possibly use the rear softtop brackets or holes as mounts.

Unsure what you mean by "rear overhead shelf", is this what your looking for ? If so, i can add more details. I adapted and built brackets for 4wd part numbers # BST41437-01 HighRock 4x4™ Modular Lower Cargo Rack Bracket by Bestop (for 2-door JK) and # BST41444-01 Universal Rack Tray by Bestop.

that is exactly what I mean. I have a 4 door so it would be a little different. I was trying to see if I can find one mounted a lot higher, to put light weight stuff up there like sleeping bags, etc.

that 1 looks awesome though!

Lol, that is what I get for looking at pics on my cell before 6am.... And worse, then posting!

OK, now that I am awake, I like his a lot. Just want it higher. I know it will block the rear view, but 5 of us are loading to much gear and us to go to Moab for a over a week trip. Mine will even be temporary.

Here's mine.

It's the tray from the 06 and older model Jeeps. My husband made brackets for it. I have a Thunderlink sub/amp at the front so it had to be a custom bracket. Underneath I have rails with adjustable stainless steel loops to tie more things down then i have a separate bracket for my air bottle.

In my last two photos above you can see the brackets that can easily be moved higher up the stock rollbar, to mount the tray at any height.

Here's another packed for my camping trip, with Engel 15qt Fridge, locked on the Engel Transit Slide Lock Plate, bolted to the tray.

Just my 2 cents, but i did the homemade shelf thing. Spent hours building it and covering it.
Eventually I went for the Tuffy Security deck and found out , its awesome and i should have just bought it from the start! Would have saved me a day off, $100 in parts, brackets and misc items!

I got a locking trailer box from harbor freight and bolted it in the back of my JKU. You could always put a sheet over the box that way everything locked up

I had the tuffy deck, but was not very secure. Just 2 bolts on the sides holding 2dr model in. Bought tool box and no external brackets, no holes to drill, can take out ot put in in 2 mins.
